Electronic Warfare (EW) challenges, including Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and other electromagnetic hazards, are increasingly relevant to modern aviation operations. The entry of new operational players such as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), counter-UAS (C-UAS), and High Airspace Operations (HAO) adds complexity to both civil and military aviation.
Initiatives such as NATO–EUROCONTROL Air Traffic Management Security Coordinating Group (NEASCOG) and the Civil-Military Cooperation (CMC) Division at EUROCONTROL integrate EW considerations with cybersecurity strategies, ensuring operational integrity and resilience in both civil and military aviation domains. Complementing these efforts, programs such as CRUCIAL HINTS and the Course on Military Aviation Cyber & Electro-Magnetic Activities Resilience developed in collaboration with the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), provide targeted training to strengthen preparedness and adaptive response.
