Aviation cybersecurity focuses on protecting CNS/ATM systems on military (and civilian) platforms against cyber-attacks and the compromise of critical information. Efforts concentrate on addressing vulnerabilities in communication networks, data exchange, and operational technologies, ensuring that resilience is built into aviation infrastructures.
Key initiatives, such as CRUCIAL HINTS and the Course on Military Aviation Cyber & Electro-Magnetic Activities Resilience developed with the European Security and Defence College (ESDC)—embed cybersecurity practices into military aviation communities, strengthening resilience across the European aviation sector. In parallel, the EDA contributes to the SWIM (System Wide Information Management) working group, part of the broader SESAR initiative, which enables secure and efficient data sharing among civil and military aviation stakeholders. EDA also contributes through the Capability Expert Groups (CEGs) in Cyber, which serve as a forum for Member States to share expertise, define capability priorities, and align national and European efforts.
Together, these efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to safeguarding aviation systems, enhancing interoperability, and protecting the integrity of critical information flows in an increasingly interconnected airspace.
