EDA to host Eurosatory debate on European land systems

A sustainable defence industrial base is crucial for Europe's security, and a vital component of the Common Security and Defence Policy. The significance of Europe’s Defence Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB), and the requirement to strengthen it, is acknowledged under the Lisbon Treaty with specific assignments to EDA.

Determining which key industrial capabilities must be preserved or developed in Europe is a important task in EDA’s EDTIB Strategy. In 2012 developing activities on Future Land Systems is high on the agenda. .
To this end, EDA will be hosting a half day seminar during Eurosatory onthe theme: “European Land Defence – Preparing the future”

The theme reflects the drive to establish a new spirit of cooperation among Land Sector stakeholders. Three dedicated sessions will explore the challenges for the Land Sector. The first focuses on operational requirements based on lessons learned in operations. Then the bottle necks in the current situation to prepare the supply for future capabilities are discussed. Thirdly governmental, industrial and technological elements of a strategic approach to cooperation in supplying the troops will be highlighted.

The objective of the seminar is to boost discussions between the different stakeholders after introductions by high level people with different experiences. The seminar will gather around 150 representatives from governments, EU institutions, industry, research organisations and academia.

The seminar will take place on Tuesday 12 June 2012 at Eurosatory, Villepinte, France. Eurosatory 2012 is a unique opportunity to boost brainstorming discussions on the challenges facing Europe’s Land Industry in meeting Member States’ future military needs.

The seminar is an element of the Key Industrial Capabilities Future Land Systems (FLS) workstrand.
