Pooling Demand: a seminar on ways forward

In association with the European Defence Agency and the Egmont - Royal Institute for International Relations of Belgium, the Ministry of Defence of Cyprus is organizing a seminar entitled: "Innovative European Defence Cooperation - Pooling and Consolidating Demand."

The seminar comes at a crucial time for efforts to pool demand. With defence budgets being cut across Europe, Ministries of Defence are looking for innovative ways to procure equipment and services; pooling demand allows them to buy together, creating economies of scale - while giving greater certainty to industry. The European Defence Agency has been at the forefront of developing this: its Effective Procurement Methods project is already delivering results, with the launch of two pilot cases in recent weeks.

The seminar will feature contributions from several leading figures in European defence. Speakers will include Demetris Eliades, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus, General Håkan Syrén, Chairman of the EU Military Committee, and Frank Haun, Chief Executive Officer of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, as well as Claude-France Arnould, the EDA's Chief Executive.

This event is by invitation only. If you would like further details, please see the contact information here. For more on the launch of the Effective Procurement Methods pilot cases, see past news items.
