EDA workshops on EU Defence Procurement

Following the High Level Seminar on the scope of application of the Article 346 TFEU in May 2011 and the EU Defence Procurement seminars in December 2011 the Agency hosted on 4 and 5 June two workshops on EU Defence Procurement for defence acquisition experts from EDA participating Member States and Norway.

On 4 June almost 40 representatives of the EU governments addressed, based on the presentations of the European Commission, the scope of application and the subcontracting provisions of the Defence and Security Procurement Directive. They also exchanged lessons learned on the transposition of the Directive and their first experiences in the practical implementation of the new regulatory framework.

On 5 June the defence acquisition experts discussed together with the EDA the complementarity of the legislative and intergovernmental measures as well as the further development of EDA Intergovernmental Regime on Defence Procurement, Code of Conduct on Defence Procurement and the Electronic Bulletin Board in order to foster more open, transparent and competitive European Defence Equipment Market.

These workshops are part of EDA activities to assist its Member States to better understand the new Defence and Security Procurement Directive and its impact on the European Defence Equipment Market. EDA activities complementary to the work conducted by the European Commission under the auspices of the Task Force on Defence Industries and Markets.
