Tasked by the SB in 2006 to identify with pMS commonalities of requirements and technological components of a 21st century soldier system the associated
PT works on two strands:
- Ad Hoc Project Team Combat Equipment Dismounted Soldiers. Nine contributing Member States aim at evaluating / developing a multinational common core with common modules for future Combat Equipment for Dismounted Soldier, able to fight and survive, within a Network Centric Warfare environment, in all kinds of warfare scenarios and environmental conditions, not only as a weapon platform but as an intelligence sensor too. The foreseen time horizon is 2015 and beyond.
- Ad Hoc Project Group Soldier Centric Identification System. The aim of this group is to detail the operational requirements for an interoperable Soldier Identification System with the objectives to: reduce fratricide to and by the individual dismounted soldier/platform; to increase the combat effectiveness of the individual dismounted soldier/platform. In general terms, the envisaged system can be considered as an Identification Friend or Foe systems at the individual soldier level.
