Testimonials

I have the privilege of being sponsored by Sweden as a Seconded National Expert within the European Defence Agency and have been with the Armaments Directorate since the autumn of 2008. I am involved in increasing the European cooperative efforts, which is a complex process that requires vision, structure, the ability to listen, patience and the will from the parties involved to find common solutions. In practice this means for me, chairing working groups and meeting with both Government and Industrial representatives to find out what unite us in order to define common goals and ways to achieve them. My job here is both challenging and rewarding. The challenge lies in identifying opportunities to take our work forward; encouraging people to talk, listen and try to understand each other’s perspectives, and thereby shifting the focus from our differences to how we instead can co-operate. The rewarding part is when we succeed and take steps forward! My colleagues in the Agency come from all over Europe and together we form a vast combined experience. To be part of this team, learning about each other’s history, culture, traditions and ways of working gives me new perspectives of life and increases my ability to perform my work. The colleagues and the friendship we may find amongst us give more examples of why it is a fantastic opportunity to be working for the EDA.
